Where I Belong

  • 1. Intro

Hey hey hey, Everything’s gonna be alright.
    Everything’s gonna be alright.
    It’s all right.
Hey, hey, hey, everything’s gonna be alright.
    Everything’s gonna be alright.
    It’s all right.

  • 2. Gonna Be Alright

I haven’t answered the phone in 14 days
The automated voice on my machine says
    Mailbox full, please call again
    Oh the messages,
    Hi honey, have you disappeared?
    You scorpios are really weird.
Maybe that’s why I can’t shake the funk I’m in
I think the only thing that’s keeping me alive
Is a good cup of coffee, and “Songs In The Key of Life”,
    but I know…

    Hey hey hey
    Everything’s gonna be alright
    Everything’s gonna be alright
    It’s all right
    Hey hey hey
    Everything’s gonna be alright
    Everything’s gonna be alright
    It’s all right.

Some days I just gotta go out and play
Feel the afternoon sun upon my face
And take a walk down the boulevard
    And I’m thinking
I take it all too seriously
It may be easier than it seems
Maybe I’m the one who makes it hard
That’s all well and good but that doesn’t fix my car
And it doesn’t keep the lights on when I’m eating in the dark
    but I know..

    Ch.

I think the only thing that’s keeping me alive
Is knowing that it works out
It just takes a little time, but I know…

    Ch.

Don’t you worry ‘bout a thing
Don’t you worry ‘bout a thing
Don’t you worry ‘bout a thing
Don’t you worry ‘bout a thing

    Ch.

  • 3. This Girl

I won’t profess to be something I’m not
But sometimes the unexpected really thickens the plot
And your standing in the mirror butt naked scatchin’ your head

Now animal attraction is a powerful beast
It’ll hunt you down when you expect it the least
But I’ve never met a little blonde vixen that could mangle my heart
She got me sick to my stomach, got me takin’ my noggin apart
    Cause…

This girl got me acting kinda silly
This girl make my head a little dizzy
This girl got me thinkin’ ‘bout doin’ thangs
And I can’t help it that
This girl got me primpin’ in the mirror
This girl! Got to think a little clearer.
    I don’t know, I can’t tell you why
    But I ain’t gonna lie
    I’m diggin’ on this girl

Now life ain’t nothin’ but a practical joke
I bet God gets a kick outta being a bloke
Handing me a chicky when I finally got my ducks in a row
    Yeah, hey hey,
Kinsey in the corner there is having a laugh
While I’m walking the floor trying to do the math
And I’m beginning to consider that the picture isn’t black and white
I’ve never been afraid of color before I guess I’ll give it a try
    Yeah, hey hey.

    Ch.

    She’s so fine
And this girl blows my mind
And I can’t really tell you why
But she takes me by surprise I said now…

  • 4. Ain’t Nobody

You say you go to your magic place
When you close your eyes and you start to sing a pretty melody
Hoping the words will be the remedy
You’ve been pushing non-stop trying to make your way
In a day when originality doesn’t pay the bills
And outside it’s raining and your feelin’ ill

Sometimes it feels like it all amounts to nothing
But I’m here to tell you baby, that you still got something
And I know you’re gonna make it cause

Ain’t Nobody can do it like you do it
Ain’t Nobody got the stuff you got baby girl
Ain’t Nobody can do it like you do it
So do it like you do it baby, and don’t ever stop.

Now the sky ain’t falling at least not today
And you still look as good as you did on the day that I met ya
And still just as stubborn as ever
Should I run around naked try to make you laugh
Or try to say something deep or find something I can use to distract your attention
Maybe it’s best not to mention

No doubt there’s probably a hundred better ways to say it
But baby I never had a doubt in my mind you could make it
And I know your gonna make it cause…

    Ch.

Sometimes it feels like it all amounts to nothing
Oh, but I’m here to tell baby
    That you still got something
And I know you’re gonna make it cause

  • 5. Nothing At All

I woke up this morning with you in my bed
The distance between us and words still unsaid
If you love me, show me.
Give me everything or nothing at all

Now you say the sweet things a man wants to here
But I know tomorrow I won’t find you here
If you love me, show me
Give me everything or nothing at all

A body can grow weary can’t you understand
Oh, you keep me guessing when I give you all I can
And I don’t wanna do this
    I ain’t got the time
    Crying baby, singing baby
    Won’t you give me sign

You say that you want me, but that’s just a line
But still I come running to be by your side
If you love me, show me
Give me everything or nothing at all

Oh baby, If you love me, if you love me baby, if you really really really love me
Give me everything or nothing at all
    Please, give me everything
    Or nothing at all

  • 6. Everytime

    Waters part, stars align
The laws of gravity change when you go walking by
    Mother nature takes a seat
See the sun hide its eyes
It knows it cannot compare to your unearthly light
And the moon bows at your feet

    The birds and angels compete
In song of praise that they sing
Earth and sky come alive, it’s so sweet

I may have lost my sense of all reality
But I’m enchanted by the magic you do
It’s just the crazy way that you’re affecting me
It only happens everytime I think about you
It only happens everytime I think about you

    Baby I’m mystified
Nostradamus could not predict something so divine
    But it’s obvious to me
    Venus kiss at your birth
The chosen one of immortal beauty sent down to earth
Just to be my every dream

Now the world is your stage
    A Technicolor display
    Hypnotized, mesmerized by the way

  • 7. All The Colors

Could it be that this life, this existence, is like a beautiful Stained Glass Window, and our beliefs, there beliefs, everybody’s beliefs, our make-up, our skin color, our sexual orientation, is right. And that God is the light that shines through that Stained Glass Window, and all the colors, all the beauty, is created because of our differences.

    Excerpt Written by Del Shores
From the Award Winning play “Southern Baptist Sissies”

  • 8. Stained Glass Window

There’s a rage way down inside me
A fire that’s branded my soul
And it leaves me as one of the many
With a hate so hard to control

Oh, but I’ve seen that hate is not the answer
There’s a time when we all must decide
To step on up with wisdom and power
And say children let’s give up the fight

Consider this for a moment or two
I’m crimson red, you are ocean blue
We’re just two of many colors
    In a stained glass window
And love is the light that’s shining through

Now you can find a thousand explanations
To demote my position with God
But I’ve discovered a divine resolution
I’m embraced by the light of Love

    Ch.

    Ooh, ooh, oooh,
    Shine, shine, shine your light
Shine it, shine it, shine your light
Shine it, shine it, shine your light
Shine it, shine it, shine your light

    Ch.

Love is the light that is shining through
Love is the light that is shining through

  • 9. No Apologies

I was born in the hills of East Tennessee
Grew strong on fried chicken and sweet tea
    Had a God-fearing family
Went to church every time the doors were open
In the crib Granny Jones had a prophecy
She said look out cause that boy can sing
    Granny knew before anyone
Music was the life that I’d be living
    And I wouldn’t change anything
What I am is what I am

    I might be country
    I might be poor
I might have sang so long for Jesus
That you say that I got soul
    I might get trashy
I might be simple as can be
But I got my roots, I got my pride,
    And I got no apologies

Here I am a young man with a fancy dream
Out of place on the streets of Los Angeles
With a soulful sound, a southern drawl
And a mind that I’ll be speaking
Ain’t it funny how it really doesn’t matter what’s in
When you’re feeling this comfortable in your own skin
You’re a superstar, don’t you know that you are the one and only
And I wouldn’t change anything, what I am is what I am

    Ch

    You better know yourself
(I’m into that, I’m into that)
    Before you love yourself
    (I’m doin’ that, I’m doin’ that, ya’ll)
    You better reclaim yourself
(I name it brother, I claim it sister)
    Embrace yourself
    (Sho’ nuff sho’ nuff )

    Ch.

    No Apologies
I got my roots, I got my pride, and I got
No, no no no no no apologies

  • 10. Prayer For The Surrender

God, I offer to you my will
To grow in me, and to do with me as you will
Release me from the bondages of self
So that I may better do thy will
Take away my adversity so that my victory
May be a witness to someone in need
Oh, God, I offer to you my will
To grow in me, and to do with me as you will
Release me from the bondages of self
So that I may better do thy will
Take away my adversity so that my victory
May be a witness to someone in need
Take away my adversity, so that my victory
May be a witness to someone, someone in need.
