DEMO: Revelation – from the new musical

In February of this year, I poured a tall glass of water and popped a very large pill. Two years of working on a musical went sideways. I decided it was not to be abandoned and just maybe…it was mine to do. My spirit was exhausted from the ordeal. I had also never written a script before. But having developed several new musicals from the ground up, I knew the lay of the land enough to have just enough confidence to get me in trouble. I bought the book Save The Cat and started making my roadmap. I fell in love with a new craft.

To date, there have been six distinctly different drafts. The last three still being a huge overhaul. But I have landed in a place that feels really good now.

With all the music demoed, charts made, script turned in, I am now waiting to see if we are in fact doing a 29 hour equity read in NYC for industry.

In the meantime, I’ll share more music with my dear crew members.

Today, I want to share the opening song.

Revelation is the start of a 90 minute fast moving train when Levi  is given an ultimatum by his long time friend, sponsor, and therapist. Never one to “sit around and talk about inner child shit”, Levi half-heartedly decides to go along with Ben’s suggestion and happens to conjure Matthew in the process.

The dialogue in the song gives you a quick taste of the relationship between Levi and Ben (therapist friend) and introduces you to Matthew for the first time. Lyrically, it’s Levi  singing into the abyss half convinced that Matthew will show. The song says what many of us in midlife feel- who wouldn’t want the chance to be young again. Be careful what you wish for.

I am intentionally not including script/lyrics below, so enjoy the listen.
