21 Weeks at #1 on The Logo Channel

We’re Okay became a standout from my second album The Gospel According to Levi.

If you read this archive post about having my first radio airplay with my song I Should Go, then you will appreciate the story of me calling my mother to share with her the good news.

“Mom, my song I Should Go reached #8 in rotation at Adult Contemporary radio stations! Just under Mariah Carey and Celine Dion!”

Her reply. “Well, if you didn’t have to air all our dirty laundry to all of America, maybe you would have charted above Mariah Carey and Celine Dion!”

I simply hung up the phone. We didn’t talk for months. I almost want to say it was close to a year. In the interim, I had written a song to her for my next album.

This is that song. And this song reached a lot of young gay men who knew my parental struggles all too well. To this day, when a fan says this song was their introduction to me, we have a quiet understanding – a shared pain.

Rosemary Alexander from Sordid Lives plays my mother in this video. Emerson Collins from A Very Sordid Wedding plays my boyfriend. And the director of my first full length motion picture Don’t Let Go, Max Myers, directed this for me on a shoestring budget.

By now, I had created a motley little crew called “LK iForce”. This was a circle of close fans and friends that would help promote my videos on various platforms. They are really responsible for voting for this video so much that it stayed #1 for a whopping 21 weeks! To this day a few members of iForce are now members of the LK Crew! Amazing!

Below is the music video and some photos from the day’s shoot. Enjoy.
